HOLISTIC SOLUTIONS TO OPERATIONS, FACILITY, SECURITY, & IT PROJECTS
When you think of Control Room Design, what comes to mind? Is it simply the parts and pieces of the room, such as consoles and video wall? Is it human factors, sight lines and ergonomics? Is it something subjective that you just can’t quite describe? Yes, Control Room Design can include those elements but, critically, it should include everything surrounding and supporting the most vital asset to any utility or essential industry—the operators.
Shortchanging a design can risk the Control Room’s functionality, security, and resiliency. And that can have long-term operational consequences.
WHAT FULL CONTROL ROOM DESIGN LOOKS LIKE
A Design is more than a simple Control Room layout. To Registered Architects, the layout is merely the starting point, to be filled in with code analysis, sections, details, and elevations to bring to fruition the full vision of the room, exterior wall, or interior partition.
In focusing solely on operator console arrangement or video display technology, a basic layout can miss the critical elements that make that equipment function and keep the room habitable – ergonomics, HVAC, lighting, and power distribution. Professional Engineers also focus on redundancy and reliability of critical utility systems, ensuring uptime and protecting Control Centers and Data Centers from natural disasters and EMP threats.
Design is a legal endeavor, culminating in permit drawings signed and sealed by registered professionals and reviewed by local governing entities. The level of details developed in these drawings and specifications allow subcontractors to provide competitive and sharp pricing.
